Christy Mathewson Check PSA/DNA Autograph Grade 10 GEM MT with note from Mrs. Mathewson

TOUGH AUTO!!! Presented is an official bank check signed by Hall of Famer Original Inductee Christy Mathewson that has been authenticated and encapsulated by PSA/DNA as a GEM MINT 10. Accompanying this pristine check is a note signed by Mrs. Mathewson as follows: "This is the last autograph I will be able to send Mrs. Mathewson."

The story behind this lot is amazing. Seems that an autograph seeker in the late 40s mailed, more than once, letters to Mrs. Mathewson asking for something from Christy Mathewson that was signed. She finally obliged by sending this collector the check, a black and white Hall of Fame Postcard and a scripted 3x5 piece of paper with the words indicated above.

The check, dated 12-22-24, less that one year prior to Mathewson's death, measures 3 x 8-5/16ths and was drawn on the Adirondack National Bank for $15. As indicated above, this check is gorgeous with a perfect PSA/DNA GEM MINT 10 autograph of Big Six. Keep in mind this is 1 of only 2 in existence in the 10 holder. The letter signed by Mrs. Mathewson and the black and white Hall of Fame postcard are in EX condition.

Also included in this lot is the dated envelope to Warren Horwitz from the Mathewson household dated 10-5-1949 with a 3 cent canceled stamp on front. A magnificent piece of historical Sports Memorabilia offered here with a unique story attached, which is also highlighted in the current Joe Orlando PSA book.
