(LOT 45)
1933 World Wide Gum #80 Babe Ruth PSA 6 EX-MT

WWG SULTAN OF SWAT!!!...
The 1933 V353 World Wide Gum baseball card set featured 94 issues of some of baseball's great heroes of the day with images 1 through 52 virtually mirroring those from the 1933 R319 Goudey Gum set. And in the 1930s, no pre-WWII baseball card could possibly match the popularity and allure of the highly coveted 1933 Babe Ruth gum cards, distributed by both the American Goudey and Canadian World Wide Gum (WWG) companies. Ruth was the undisputed king of baseball and artifacts bearing his name or likeness were in high demand. Though Goudey Ruths are plentiful, comparatively speaking, his WWG issues are significantly more obscure, making this #80 Babe Ruth in a PSA 6 EX-MT example that much more tantalizing. The Babe had two issues in the 94-card World Wide Gum set (#80 & #93) as opposed to the four presented in the American Goudey series. And though there are more than 1,550 Goudey #144 examples featuring the Babe's full-body follow through, only 106 non-qualified examples of the WWG issues have been graded by PSA. Offering excellent borders, great color and clarity and a one-of-a-kind subject, this ultra-rare World Wide Gum featuring The Bambino would be a cornerstone for even one of the finest collections in the hobby!
