(LOT 97)
1961 Fleer #4 Walt Bellamy Rookie PSA 9 MINT

BELLS BELLAMY!!!...
More than 64 years after he graduated from Indiana University, Walt Bellamy still holds the records for Total Rebounds Per Game for a season (17.8) and career (15.5) and is third all-time in Total Rebounds (1,087) and fourth in Points Per Game (20.6). He was the first player in Hoosier history to be taken #1 overall when the Chicago Packers took him first in the 1961 NBA Draft. Bellamy did not disappoint as he took home NBA Rookie of the Year honors in 1962. The 6'11" center out of North Carolina put together one of the three greatest rookie campaigns in NBA history after Oscar Robertson and Wilt Chamberlain and earned his first of four NBA All-Star nods. For 14 seasons, Bellamy centered five different teams including the Chicago Packers/Zephyrs/Baltimore Bullets, the Knicks, the Pistons, the Hawks and the NOLA Jazz, amassing 20,941 total points and 14,241 total rebounds. Offered here is Walt Bellamy's 1961 Fleer #4 rookie issue graded 9 MINT by PSA. Less than six months have passed since a 9 MINT Bellamy hammered at $38,400. This highest graded example offers striking color and near-perfect centering save for a soft tilt, likely accounting for this not receiving GEM MINT status. The perimeter looks just cut from a sheet and the image is as clear as day.
