1954 Topps #8 Gordie Howe PSA 8.5 NM-MT+
MR. HOCKEY!!!...
After finally retiring in 1980 at the age of 51, and nearly ten years after his passing in 2016, Gordie Howe is still remembered as perhaps the greatest all-around hockey player in history. The New York Rangers originally offered the 15-year-old Howe a "C" contract in 1943, he ultimately chose the Detroit Red Wings and debuted as an 18-year-old in 1946, scoring in his first game in the NHL. Though his size gave him an advantage when the gloves were dropped, and Howe dropped them a lot his first year (52 PIM), it was his scoring and passing that got him noticed. While in the Motor City, Gordie won six Art Ross trophies as the league's top scorer, collected six Hart Trophies as league MVP and led the Red Wings to four Stanley Cup championships from 1946 to 1971. He then played seven seasons in the upstart WHA where in 1973-74 with the Houston Aeros, he played alongside his two sons, Mark and Marty, even after being inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame. Offered here is a 1954 Topps #8 Gordie Howe graded 8.5 NM-MT+ by PSA. This POP 2 example displays all you might expect from an 8.5 issue with incredible clarity, razor borders and corners, and an overall pack-freshness rarely seen. With only three superiors, this high-grade Howe is sure to upgrade your collection!
