1959 Fleer Ted Williams with Wax Pack Complete PSA Registered Set - #8 on Set Registry with 8.93 GPA
TEDDY'S BALLGAME!!!...
Ted Williams was not only a hero to millions on the ball field, but an actual American hero serving as a fighter pilot in World War II and Korea. His exploits on the field, however, fulfilled his ultimate dream of walking down the street as people looked and said, "There goes the greatest hitter that ever lived." Over 19 seasons with the Boston Red Sox, minus three for military service, Ted Williams posted a .316 career batting average, collecting 2,654 hits, including 521 home runs, and drove in 1,839 RBIs. He was named American League MVP twice but easily could have won it five times. He was the tenth player since 1901 to win the Triple Crown for hitting, and he did it twice (1942 & '47), and in 1941 he became the last player in the Majors to bat over .400 for the season (.406). Only a year from retirement as a player, Ted Williams was honored by the Fleer Company with the 80-card 1959 Fleer Ted Williams Baseball set.
The 1959 Fleer Ted Williams set chronicled the Splendid Splinter's life from The Early Years (#1), to his Outstanding Rookie (year) of 1939 (#14), to his 1953-Ted Crash Lands (his fighter) Jet (#47), his coveted Ted Signs for 1959 (#68) and his Hitting Fundamentals (#71-73). The offered 1959 Fleer Ted Williams Baseball set is the #8 ranked set on PSA's esteemed Registry with 67 PSA 9 MINT examples and the remaining 13 holdered 8 NM-MT by PSA, amounting to a fantastic 8.93 GPA. Seven of the issues stand as the highest graded in the hobby, while another 12 have only a single example graded higher. This is a remarkably well-preserved set of the "greatest hitter of all time" that also includes a single 6-card wax pack encapsulated 8 NM-MT in superb condition.
