Neil Armstrong Signed ILC Industries Space Suits for Project Apollo Brochure PSA/DNA 10 GEM MINT
Founded in 1947, Delaware's ILC Industries (International Latex Corp.) specialized in high-performance flexible materials for outdoor use in the form of canteens, life rafts and even attack boats. But in the 1950s and ‘60s, ILC teamed with the U.S. Navy and Air Force to improve aviator helmets and pressure suits. NASA soon followed, and in 1965, ILC began producing the Apollo Lunar Space Suits, ultimately worn by every astronaut from the 34 missions of the Apollo Space Program. In 1969, John F. Kennedy's goal to land "a man on the Moon and returning him safely to Earth" became a reality when Commander Neil Armstrong, Lunar Module Pilot Buzz Aldrin and Command Module Pilot Michael Collins successfully landed on the surface of the Moon.
Armstrong was the first to walk on the Moon with Aldrin soon following. They spent 21 hours and 39 minutes on the Moon successfully testing ILC's Lunar Space Suits. Offered here is a 1969 ILC trifold brochure signed in blue ballpoint by Neil Armstrong on the reverse. A rarity to be sure, given Armstrong's reclusive nature following his NASA career, this superbly protected 4" x 9" brochure is encapsulated by PSA/DNA with a GEM MINT 10 grade assigned to Armstrong's autograph. This is a remarkable autographed piece for any space fanatic.
