1888 A&G #1 SET!!!...The 1888 Allen & Ginter N29 The World’s Champions multisport set featured 50 cards from across athletics, including swimming, cycling, wrestling, running, boxing, track and field, and, of course, baseball. Measuring 1-1/2” x 2-3/4” each, the half dozen baseball cards were produced in the Allen & Ginter classic style with colorful and artistic renderings of the players set against a white background with their name and team boldly struck along the bottom edge. Included in the baseball set were Hall of Famer William “Buck” Ewing, George “Foghorn” Miller, Jim Fogarty, Jimmy Ryan, Charles “Pretzels” Getzien and John Morrill (misspelled Morrell). These baseball examples rarely surface and most definitely are almost never offered as a group. Over the past decade or so, our consignor has assembled these baseball issues with each encapsulated by PSA to earn the top spot on PSA’s esteemed Set Registry, making this a virtual once-in-a-lifetime offering.
