Vernon “Lefty” Gomez was perched atop the New York Yankees rotation for 13 seasons, winning 189 games and completing 173 of his 368 starts. He led the Yanks to six World Series titles. In 1934, Lefty Gomez captured the pitching Triple Crown as he led the AL in wins (26), ERA (2.33) & strikeouts (158), as well as complete games (25) & shutouts. In 1937, he again won the Triple Crown, winning 21 with an ERA of 2.33 (again) & 194 Ks. Presented is an exceptional 11" x 14" Lefty Gomez George Burke Type 1 photo as he warmed up prior to his next start. With his name written in white paint pen on the front, the central image is unobstructed by any defects. Minor water toning is apparent along the border, especially at the lower left and 2-3 insignificant print defects are evident left of his cap. The lightly discolored reverse, due to nearly a century of storage, has the Geo. Burke, Photo stamping at center, and Gomez’s name is typewritten at the top. Border discoloration is visible at the corners.
