The 1951 Topps Magic Football set was uniquely produced with the standard player image, name and team at the bottom. The backs, however, presented the bottom portion of the card as a scratch-off style surface that fans could scratch to find the answer to the previously printed question, such as “What team in Virginia is known as the Indians?” Scratch the bottom half and a photo of William & Mary College is unveiled. These 75 cards featuring colorized images of college football great includes Hall of Famers George Young and John Bright as well as the coveted Heisman trophy winner Vic Janowicz and stars Bill Wade, Marion Campbell and Bert Rechichar. Measuring 2-1/16" x 2-15/16" each, the cards were sold in 1-card penny packs or nickel packs containing three two-card panels, the latter of which featured a tab at top or bottom. Offered here is the current #3 ranked 1951 Topps Magic Football set of PSA’s Set Registry. Including 14 PSA 8s, one 7.5, 19 PSA 7s, 13 PSA 6s and 24 PSA 5 examples, rounded out by one PSA 4 and two 7 qualified, this set is high-grade to be sure. Highlights include #s: 4 Parilli (7NM MC), 10 Janowicz (7 NM OC) and 48 Young RC (5 EX) and dozens more. Six of these examples remain unrubbed, as noted on the click-off page provided. Current estimated value of over $5,000.
