(LOT 31)
1952 Topps #311 Mickey Mantle PSA 3.5 VG+

After the 2022 sale of a 1952 Topps Mickey Mantle graded 9.5 by SGC yielded a whopping $12.6M, collectors, and families of collectors, across the nation have rifled through attics, storage lockers, basements and box after box of baseball cards in search of a potential gem that could award them life-changing money. Thus far, no treasure trove of Mickey Mantle Topps Rookies has since been unearthed. So, the hunt will continue. In the 1950s, Mickey Mantle was the closest thing to an American hero that young boys and girls could adore and follow as he tested the furthest confines of every ballpark in Major League Baseball. In 1951, Mickey replaced the aging superstar Joe DiMaggio, taking over center field for the powerful New York Yankees. In his rookie campaign, playing alongside DiMaggio, The Mick severely hurt his knee, one of many injuries to befall the phenom over his career. As it was, Mickey played his entire career with a torn ACL. But that, now-debilitating, injury did not keep the Commerce Comet from collecting 536 home runs, seven World Series titles and three American League MVP awards. In his 1956 MVP season, he became the 10th player in MLB history to win the elusive Triple Crown as he collected a league-leading 52 home runs, 130 RBIs and batted .353.

During his 18-year career in the big leagues, Mickey was nearly a household name, and children far and wide would listen by the radio or watch him on TV doing things that no one in the game at the time was capable of. His cards were the most traded and/or collected, as he was one of the great players of his generation playing for the mighty New York Yankees. And while the treasure trove of Mantle Rookies has not been found, Memory Lane proudly offers this 1952 Topps #311 Mickey Mantle graded 3.5 VG+ by PSA. This is, without question, one of the hottest and most coveted Topps issues on the market once more. Offering fantastic thick white borders with centering marginally favoring the upper left, this Mantle image stands out as worthy of a much higher assessment. The edging and corners are evenly worn, and the surfaces are clean and bright. It is clear that The Mick's 1952 Topps is one of the most coveted in the hobby, so this is your opportunity to land a Mick Rookie of your own. This one is incredibly eye-appealing and deserves your attention, at least until that treasure trove of Micks is found.
