In 1973, the reigning Super Bowl champion Miami Dolphins, who went 12-2, defeated the 12-2 Minnesota Vikings 24-7 in Super Bowl VIII to win their second consecutive title. The Vikings devastating loss would be the second in four trips (1969, '73, '74 & '76) to the big game that Minnesota would fall. And though Miami did suffer two losses, unlike their undefeated season in 1972, they were unmatched defensively throughout the season, a trait that would benefit them when dealing with the rambling Fran Tarkenton in Super Bowl VIII.
