The turn of the century, the 21st century that is, has been nothing but success for the Boston Red Sox. Agonizing for 86 years without a World Championship, the BoSox certainly had their moments that were only dashed in the end, and sometimes at the very end. When Boston shipped 24-year-old Babe Ruth to the New York Yankees in 1919, after he assisted in capturing three World Series titles (1915, ’16 & ’18), according to Sox fans all over New England, the organization was “cursed”, having executed the WORST trade in MLB history. So while the Red Sox wallowed in mediocrity for decades, the New York Yankees won, and won, and won, and won, and so on to the tune of 26 World Series titles before Boston would hoist the Commissioner’s Trophy once again. Starting in 1923, Ruth and Lou Gehrig and Murderers’ Row won eight titles from ’23 to ‘39. The BoSox would not even make it back to the World Series until 1946, where they lost to the St. Louis Cardinals in seven games. They had arguably the greatest hitter of his time in Ted Williams, who won the Triple Crown (TWICE), six batting titles and two MVPs, but played in only seven World Series games in 1946. They fell short in 1967, 1975, and in 1986, when hopes were dashed as an error in the 10th inning in Game 6 with two outs forced a Game 7, which they lost. It was heartbreak after heartbreak. It wasn’t until 2004 that the Red Sox would fulfill their ultimate destiny of winning a world championship once again, as they swept the Redbirds in four to win the first title in 86 years. They returned in 2007 and swept the Colorado Rockies to win their second and then won again in 2013 & 2018. Offered here is a 2007 Boston Red Sox Word Series championship ring presented to their Pawtucket Red Sox affiliate manager, Ron Johnson. The design mirrors that of players and coaches on the big-league roster like Ortiz, Youkilis, Schilling, Lowell, Pedroia and Papelbon and is presented in the original wooden display box. Complete with a red stone-encrusted Red Sox logo on top with synthetic sapphires surrounding the “baseball diamond”, also hosting multiple diamonds, this Jostens 14K ring features a ring of diamonds encircling the rim with the name and date of “Boston Red Sox , 10-28-07” engraved in the interior. The left shank features “7th World Series Championship – 4-0 Sweep” at top and bottom of a Fenway Park rendering. The right shank displays “Johnson” – MIN LG 2007” with the Boston “B” flanked by two Commissioner’s Trophies. This giant size 14 ring carries an attached ring reducer at the bottom.
