JOE BRRR!!!...In 2021, just a year out of Louisiana State University, Joe Burrow carried the hopes and dreams of millions of Cincinnati fans on his shoulders as he led the once-lowly Bengals to Super Bowl LVI in only his second year as starting QB. As a rookie, Burrow took over the reins at quarterback from the departed Andy Dalton with the pressure of reviving the mediocre franchise, whose previous Super Bowl visit occurred 33 years prior (1988) during the Boomer Esiason days. Drafting him #1 overall, Cincinnati finally had an elite quarterback, and the 2019 National Champion and Heisman Trophy winner did not disappoint. In 2020, Burrow threw for 2,688 yards and 13 touchdowns but then suffered a season-ending knee injury. Then in 2021, Joe returned to Cincinnati a new man, leading the Bengals to a 10-6 record and leading the NFL in completion percentage (70.4%) and yards gained per pass attempt (8.9). He threw for 4,611 yards and 34 touchdowns, earning the Comeback Player of the Year Award. His steely calm under pressure won him the nickname Joe Cool or Joe Brrr. He then led the unlikely AFC Champions to the Super Bowl against the Los Angeles Rams, ultimately falling 23-20 following a final two-minute score for LA. This fantastic game-worn Joe Burrow road jersey dates to that magical second-year Super Bowl-run season when the Bengals faced the Baltimore Ravens on October 24, 2021. Showing incredible game usage on the back with grass stains down the center of his shoulder pads from the seven quarterback hits from the Raven defense. The green grass stains remain prevalent, as does Burrow’s autograph in white paint pen within his #9 jersey number, which also has inscribed “Game Used 10-24-21” and “23-38 – 416 YDS – 3 TDs”. Sports Investors Authentication was able to conclusively match this jersey to being worn by Joe Burrow on October 24, 2021. During this game, Burrow had 23 completions for 416 yards and 3 touchdowns. This size 42 jersey presented the “Paul Brown” name inside the collar in black and the captaincy patch remains on his right shoulder. “It is consistent with known exemplars, exhibits game use, and has been photo matched.” It is immensely rare that a game-used uniform or jersey will surface from a near-championship year, making this one phenomenal piece of memorabilia. Burrow took the Bengals to Super Bowl LVI and he is currently only 28 years old, so we can only imagine what kind of potential he has. But we do know the potential for a bidding war is sure to occur with this gamer from Joe Cool!
