STARRY-EYED SOPHOMORE!!!...Playing his first season in Boston and relocating to Milwaukee in 1953 with the Braves organization, Eddie Mathews quickly left his mark on Major League Baseball. In 1953, the Brookfield Bomber led the National League with 47 home runs and finished second in NL MVP voting. At 21 years old, Mathews was one of the most feared sluggers in the NL. For 15 seasons with the Braves, Steady Eddie averaged nearly 33 home runs per year, posting a .273 batting average. In 1957, he teamed with Hank Aaron, Wes Covington and Del Crandell, among others to lead the NL in home runs with 199 and captured the franchise’s second World Series title. Offered is a sensational 1953 Topps #37 Eddie Mathews graded 9 MINT from PSA. With striking colors displaying Mathews youthful glow, this near-perfect example is well-framed with a pack-fresh look, razor edging and corners, and virtually untouched surfaces. Mathews was the only player to play in all three Braves cities (BOS, MIL & ATL).
