The Babe is one of the rocks upon which this great hobby was built and continues to grow with each new “find”. Over the course of a year and the dozens of auctions held, Babe Ruth material is prominently offered and, seemingly, the one item that is ubiquitous in getting most of the press is the single-signed Babe Ruth baseball. The Bambino was never one to refuse a fan’s request for an autograph, photograph or any other want the adoring admirers asked of him, it seems, and this circa-1927 autographed Babe Ruth baseball is one such artifact. Evenly age-toned over the entire horsehide with only scattered light discolorations, this Official National League ball is signed “Babe” Ruth on the sweet spot in a black steel-tip fountain pen. According to the included letter, our consignor received the ball from a relative who dated it from the 1927 World Series. While the ball technically dates to 1920-1925, it is certainly conceivable that this was acquired around 1925, as Pittsburgh faced the Senators in the Fall Classic that year, and was then presented to the Sultan of Swat at the 1927 World Series for his historic signature to be added. Everyone needs a Babe Ruth single-signed baseball in their collection, and this is one that deserves consideration, to be sure. Along with the PSA/DNA LOA, an original owner letter of provenance also accompanies this gem.
