ALL ORIGINAL!!!...Early Wynn was the model of consistency for 23 seasons in the big leagues. With Washington (1939, 1941-48), Cleveland (1949-57, 1963) and Chicago (1958-62), Early Wynn was the best American League pitcher during the 1950s, posting a 188-119 record with 162 complete games, 33 shutouts and 1.544 strikeouts in 374 games. Early averaged 19 wins for a decade! Astounding! On a staff that included fellow Hall of Famers Bobs Lemon and Feller, Wynn’s consistency helped lead the Indians to within striking distance of the powerhouse New York Yankees for all of the 1950s. Unfortunately for Early, he was slightly late, as the Indians won the 1948 World Series, one year before his arrival. In 1952, Early Wynn went 23-12 with 19 complete games, four shutouts and three saves over a league-leading 36 starts. Presented here is an all-original 1952 Cleveland Indians Early Wynn Home Uniform, including jersey and pants, minus the stirrup socks. This incredible ensemble features his sized 46 top that still hosts the chain-stitched “E. Wynn” in the collar and “1952"" on the left front tail, each in black thread, each of which have been photo-matched with exemplars from teammate gamers. The red-on-navy tackle twill “Indians” on the chest and his #24 on the back remain in exceptional condition and are as vibrant as ever. Displaying only minor sweat soil around the collar and fairly clean overall, the jersey has only a minor defect with a small tear under the left chest area and expected playing wear and fraying at the sleeve tips. The size 38 pants also carry a felt swatch with “E. Wynn” embroidered on it in the waistband with only minimal expected soiling wear from Wynn’s every fifth day start. After a thorough review and inspection, the foremost authority in game-used uniforms and equipment, Dave Grob of SGC, has assessed this Wynn uniform as Excellent/Superior. Heritage Auctions has also submitted a detailed Certificate of Authenticity that this uniform is consistent with the Cleveland Indian exemplars still in existence and has deemed it Excellent/Superior in the eyes of their authenticators. Full uniforms rarely emerge for auction and Memory Lane is proud to offer this incredible home uniform from a Hall of Famer of Early Wynn’s status. He may not be the first pitcher that comes to mind when thinking about 1950s hurlers, but Early Wynn was the ninth pitcher since 1900 to reach the 300-win mark and one of only 24 to ever reach or eclipse the elusive mark. This near-complete uniform belongs in a museum or, at the very least, as the centerpiece of the finest Cleveland Indians (Guardians) collection.
