(LOT 18)
c. 1921 Babe Ruth - Type 1 PSA Encapsulated International Newsreel Original News Service Photo

Only two years after winning their final World Series of the 20th Century, Boston traded Babe Ruth to the New York Yankees in exchange for $100,000 cash. And thus, the curse began. But New York and The Babe would be fine. In 1921, the Bambino passed Roger Connor's home run mark of 138, and from that moment on, each home run that Ruth hit was a new record. He hit 59 homers that season, his second year with the Bronx Bombers, and led New York to an American League pennant before falling to the cross-town rival New York Giants. Two years later he helped lead them to their first World Series championship, his fourth of seven. The offered 1921 International News Service Newsreel Type 1 photograph depicts the Sultan of Swat blasting one out of the famed Polo Grounds ballpark, the field the Giants and Yankees shared until 1922 when the House that Ruth Built, Yankee Stadium, opened in 1923. This amazing borderless, approx. 5" x 7", photo was used to produce five of Ruth's most coveted baseball cards including: 1926 Kut Outs, 1929-30 Rogers Peet, 1932 Sanella, 1932 Astra and 1937 Donut Co. of America. A superb early image of Ruth in pinstripes displaying only a light amount of toning for period usage. The back offers the International Newsreel stamping a minor pencil photographic notation.
