1884 Boston Base Ball Association Stock Certificate for 4 Shares
This is a stock certificate for four shares of the Boston Base Ball Association, numbered 128, issued on December 15th, 1884, to J.B. Billings, who would later serve as the club's treasurer in 1889. Originally, this share was held by Frederick E. Long, the club's treasurer from 1871 to 1888. The reissue to Billings is noted in the accompanying company records. The certificate is signed by Allan J. Chase, the current treasurer of the club, and A.H. Soden, the president of the association. Billings also signed the reverse of the certificate. The condition of the certificate is remarkably well-preserved, with the paper remaining fresh and free of creases or tears, a rare find for such an item.
